Rafael Luque (Ph.D 2005 from Universidad de Cordoba, Spain) has extensively published (over 700 peer-reviewed publications) in the areas of (nano)materials science, heterogeneous (nano)catalysis, microwave and flow chemistry, biofuels and green chemical methods in synthetic organic chemistry, filed 5 patent applications and edited 12 books as well as numerous contributions to book chapters and invited, guest, keynote and plenary lectures in scientific events worldwide.

Prof. Luque is also member of the Editorial Board of prestigious journals including Chemical Society Reviews and Green Chemistry (RSC), Catalysis Communications and Green Energy and Environment (Elsevier), ChemCatChem (Wiley), ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering (ACS), Topics in Current Chemistry and Scientific Reports (Springer-Nature). Rafael received also a long list of awards including the Marie Curie Prize from Instituto Andaluz de Quimica Fina in Spain (2011), the Green Talents award from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany (2011), the TR35 Spain from Technology Review and MIT as one of the top 10 young entrepreneurs in Spain (2012), the RSC Environment, Sustainability and Energy Early Career Award (2013) from the Royal Society of Chemistry UK, the 2015 Lu Jiaxi lectureship from the College of Chemistry and Engineering in Xiamen University (China) and the 2018 ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering Lectureship award. Prof. Luque is also a young entrepreneur being cofounder of Starbon Technologies Ltd. At the UK, Green Applied Solutions S.L.U. in Spain and Heihua Biotechnotic Ltd. In China in addition to a Distinguished Engineering Fellowship and Visiting Professorship from CBME at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong (2013) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the State Key Laboratory of Electroanalytical Chemistry of the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (2014, 2017) as well as Ciencia Sem Fronteiras Special Scientist of Universidade de Pelotas (Brazil) in 2015. Currently, Prof. Luque is Director of the Center for Molecular Design and Synthesis of Innovative Compounds for Medicine at RUDN University in Moscow, Russia (since 2018), being also DFSP Distinguished Scientist at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia, Gäst Professor at Mid Sweden University in Sweden (from 2022) as well as more recently Distinguished International Rectoral Advisor at Universidad ECOTEC (Ecuador) and Chair Professor (part-time) at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia.
